Engr. Prof. Sampson Kofi Kyei is an Associate Professor in the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) at the Department of Chemical Engineering where he has been a faculty member since 2011. He was promoted to the rank of a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry in February 2015. He is the Examinations Officer for the Faculty of Engineering. He was the Head of Department of Parallel Programs at the Institute of Distance and Continuous Education (IDLCE), KsTU from September 2021 till August 2022.

Sampson completed his Ph.D. at the World Bank Centre for Oilfields Chemical Research, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and Master’s degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana in 2020 and 2007 respectively. In July 2001 he obtained his BSc. (Chemistry) degree from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. His research interests lie in environmental monitoring and the use of local raw materials and agro-wastes to develop affordable, environmentally friendly chemicals for industrial applications.

He has collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines of chemical and environmental engineering, particularly industrial chemistry on bioresource and biomass utilization. Currently, Prof. Kyei is the key technical person on a collaborative project between KsTU and the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria where they are tasked with the design, fabrication, and installation of a mini-facility for processing and extraction of orange mesocarp and production of industrial-grade rutin.

Engr. Prof. Kyei has participated in over ten (10) workshops and conferences locally and internationally. He has 3 conference papers and 19 publications in high impact journals to his credit. Professionally, he is corporate member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana and a Certified Environmental Scientist with the National Registry of Environmental Professionals, USA. He is a Reviewer of several journals published by Elsevier B.V and Springer Nature.

Engr. Sampson Kofi Kyei is happily married to Mrs. Iris Bithiah Boafo and they have four boys and two girls.
