Professor Samuel Osei-Djarbeng is a Ghanaian Pharmacist, and an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmaceutical Microbiology). He holds a PhD in Health Bio-Science (Pharmacognosy and Microbiology) obtained from the University of East London, Stratford – London (UK). He also holds PGC in Research (MRes) fom the same University. Additionally, he has a Master of Philosophy degree in Pharmacy (MPharm - Pharmacognosy Option) and Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (BPharm [Hons.] which were obtained from KNUST, Ghana.
Prof. Osei-Djarbeng is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. He lectures and carries out research at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences where he was previously the head of Department.
Prof. Osei-Djarbeng has numerous skills in the field of Pharmacy and related areas. His research interests are in; investigation of the scientific basis for the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of diseases, especially infectious ones; isolation and characterization of active drug compounds in medicinal plants. He has expertise in the use of spectroscopic instruments such as Mass Spectroscopy (MS)/MALDI-ToF; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), UV-Visible spectroscopy, and chromatographic techniques. His other research interests are in Pharmacognosy (Phytochemistry and Natural Products); Analysis of Drugs, Food, Water; Cell Culture; Wound Healing; Anti-Quorum Sensing Activity; Anti-Oxidant Activities; and Social and General Pharmacy Practice.
Furthermore, Prof. Osei-Djarbeng is into product formulation and analysis. He formulates pharmaceutical (medicinal) products from both natural (plants, animals, mineral) and synthetic sources; food products; cosmetic and domestic products.
Prof. Osei-Djarbeng is devoted to helping young fellows who aspire to be in the health and other related sectors. He is a Christian, and is married with three (3) children.
